Our school
The 4th junior high school of Chania (4th - Tetarto Gymnasio Chanion) is a public secondary school, centrally located in the town of Chania, which is the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania regional unit (municipality of Chania population is 110,646 [2021]).
Our school hosts 220 students aged 12 to 15 years and its teaching staff consists of 25 teachers of various subjects.
The school applies the national analytical curriculum specified by the Ministry of Education for each grade, which foresees the teaching of subjects such as: Greek language and literature, ancient Greek, history, mathematics , physics , chemistry, biology, geography, foreign languages, (English, French and German), computer science, technology, sports, art and music. Moreover, the school offers integration courses for students with learning difficulties.
In order to create a positive and quality learning environment and enhance students’ competencies through an experiential and entertaining approach, the school carries out a series of cultural and environmental projects (this year a cinema club, a weekly cultural workshop on dance theatre and improvisation, an environmental program on the E4 European long distance path, an e-magazine entitled “school life moments” etc ) In addition, it has carried out socially oriented activities and has participated in various information technology and art contests.
The 4th Gymnasium’s student population is characterized by its cultural and ethnical diversity. The school area has a middle to lower social and economic profile, that is why it is crucial to open up “windows” to the world for these children.
Mobility and internationalization is one of the school’s primary goals for the current and coming years. The school is currently building up knowledge in the field, by running an e-twinning project and expanding its international contact network. Strengthening the school’s European profile will provide the chance to all parties involved and, especially to the students, to develop their European identity and enhance their communication and social skills by participating in intercultural cooperation, training and learning activities.
